Hello and welcome!
My name is Jamie Kleinschmidt and I am the school social worker here at Komarek school. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in human development and family studies from Indiana University (IU). I also received my Masters in Social Work with a school concentration at IU. I have had the pleasure of working at Komarek for the past six years, and feel that I have truly found a second home here!
As a School Social Worker, I work to help parents, students, and school staff identify needs that interfere with learning and work with students to get the services they need. I also work with general and special education students and their families to resolve social, emotional and behavioral problems. I can work with students in a group setting, classroom setting or individually to serve the needs of each student.
Currently, I go into each of the K-3 general education homerooms to teach social skills one time a week. Topics we discuss include, but are not limited to: listening skills, friendship building, bullying, empathy building, following directions, responsible behaviors, ways to stay calm, and many more. I also counsel in pull out small group settings and individually. I am willing to talk with any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
