Thank you for taking the time to visit my homepage! I have the privilege of instructing nearly every child at Komarek School District 94 in both K-3/5-8 General Music classes as well as the Beginner Chorus, Concert Choir, and SoliVocé choral ensembles. I have taught here at Komarek since 2011 and am excited for all of the opportunities we as a community have built for our students!
I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Elmhurst College as well as a minor in Theatre and a Performance Certificate in Classical and Musical Theatre Voice. While at Elmhurst I studied voice with Scott Uddenberg, Prof. Susan Moninger, Donna Tallman, Gayle Bisesi, and Brenda Lualdi. I was a member of the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, "Blue" Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Lab Band, and was a guest soloist with the Women's Chorus. I was involved on stage and off in over 16 productions at the Elmhurst College Mill Theatre receiving nominations and recognitions from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in both acting, and sound design/composition.
I received my Master of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. While at VCFA I studied with Diane Moser, Michael Early, and Andy Jaffe. Among numerous works premiered during my time there include pieces for piano trio and voice, vocal quartet, wind quintet, and string trio. This past Summer, I studied choral music composition at Oxford University (England) with Dr. James Whitbourn.
I am currently the Assistant Conductor with the Spirito! Singers Choral Organization of the Western Suburbs. The organization involves over 200 singers ranging from ages 11 to 70 from 41 different schools and 26 communities. We even have a number of students from Komarek involved in one of the choirs. We have performed at Cellular Field, the United Center, and present various concerts and service events throughout the year.
I recently published my first book titled,  SoliVocé: Repertoire and Resources for Young A Cappella Choirs. The book combines lesson plans, activities, and new arrangements and compositions designed for young choirs to learn the art of a cappella to young singers. Just like Komarek's very own ensemble of the same name!
Composing has been a large part of my development as a musician and I am delighted to be able to pursue this passion alongside my work in District 94 as well as bringing my experiences in composition to the ensembles here at Komarek. I am honored to have had works premiered by all the vocal ensembles at Komarek  and look forward to more experiences in new music with our students!
Below you will find recordings of past works. Enjoy!
