Hello! My name is Stephanie Pedersen. I have been teaching at Komarek School for 7 years. I am excited to be back in 5th grade this year, especially since students have the opportunity to be part of the 1:1 computer initiative. Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with students in many different levels including Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade and 5th Grade. I enjoy working with students in Homework Class and teaching various enrichment summer classes too. In addition to teaching 5th Grade at Komarek, I am also a tutor, a children's fitness instructor, and an employee at the Westchester Park District.
As a young adult, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. I studied Italian for 4 years in high school and 2 years in college because I was sure I would live in Milan,Italy- the fashion capital of the world. As you can probably assume, that dream went unfulfilled. However, I still use my love of the Italian language and culture to teach students basic vocabulary and cultural notes in my summer camp, Benvenuto all'Italia. Ultimately, I knew teaching was my true passion and I couldn't be happier with my chosen profession.
In 2008, I earned a Bachelor's Degree from Dominican University in River Forest where I also played softball for 4 years. In 2013, I earned a Master's Degree in Reading from Concordia University, which is located just 5 blocks from Dominican University. Trust me, it was NOT easy telling my friends from college that I was going to attend our arch rival for graduate school! Beginning June 2016, I will begin taking courses to obtain my ESL endorsement through Olivet Nazarene University. I am excited to learn new strategies that will help my students reach their academic potential .
I look forward to having a successful year with my students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
