Welcome! My name is Jennifer Brandt. I am in my fourteenth year of teaching Fifth Grade at Komarek, eighteenth teaching all together. I too attended Komarek School, beginning in Kindergarten and graduating from Eighth Grade. I grew up in North Riverside, where I lived for twenty-six years. So, Komarek & North Riverside hold an extra special place in my heart and I am truly grateful to be "Home".
In 1998, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University. In the year 2000, I completed a program through National-Louis University, earning a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also taken many other classes to help me better serve the students of Komarek School, totaling over thirty class hours. Other than teaching Fifth Grade, I began my teaching career as a French instructor of Fifth and Sixth Grade students. French was my minor in college and the love of the language began here at Komarek when I was in 3rd Grade. I also taught a Novel Study course and Algebra class at the Junior High level. In addition, I taught Second Grade for one year before coming to Komarek.
My husband, Brian, is also a teacher. Coincidentally, he also teaches at the school that he went too! We have two sons (Conor - 7 years old & Colin - 5 years old), and a dog (Santo). We love attending and watching sporting events and traveling. Our favorite vacation spots are Walt Disney World and Panama City Beach, Florida. Conor and Colin keep us very busy, as they play baseball, basketball, and hockey. We are very big Cubs, Blackhawks, and Alabama fans!
I am so excited about our new school year and our new way of learning this year! I look forward to helping the students learn in this new way and learning from them!
